On November 26 (local time), Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with Great Wall Motor's (GWM) International President, Shi Qingke, to discuss the development of the new energy sector and future collaboration. President Lula expressed the Brazilian government's full support for GWM's development plans. Shi Qingke announced that GWM's Brazil factory is expected to start production by mid-2025.
Notably, just days earlier, Shi Qingke met with São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas and Economic Development Minister Jorge Lima. The discussions focused on the factory's production timeline and localization efforts. Governor de Freitas pledged full support for the factory and related industries to strengthen São Paulo's leadership in the new energy sector. Shi Qingke emphasized that São Paulo is a strategic core region for GWM in Brazil, and the company plans to enhance its localized supply chain, creating over 700 new jobs.
In 2022, GWM began intensively developing Brazil's new energy market, launching its core market strategy. Over the next decade, GWM plans to invest more than 10 billion Brazilian reais (approximately 11.5 billion RMB) to deepen its local industrial layout, establish itself as a tech-driven enterprise in Brazil, and focus on electrification and intelligence. The company aims to become the leading new energy vehicle brand in the Brazilian market.
Since entering the Brazilian market, GWM's dealership network has expanded rapidly from just one dealership to 88 in under two years, covering major cities and key regions.
Meanwhile, GWM is upgrading its Iracemápolis factory, which will become Brazil's first new energy vehicle production facility. Once the smart and digital transformation is complete, the factory will provide high-quality new energy products for the Brazilian market.
In terms of product planning, GWM intends to launch more than ten new energy vehicle models in Brazil, spanning its Haval, Tank, and Ora brands.
