At the 2023 Chengdu Auto Show, the Jiangling Ford Ranger pickup officially started its pre-sale, limited to 800 units. At the same time, officials stated that the entry-level price would not exceed 160,000 yuan. Its first storefront will open in the southwestern region in October, with Horizon Experience Stores gradually being established nationwide. The debut model, Ford Ranger 1st Edition, introduces a wealth of original factory off-road modifications and eye-catching exclusive design elements.
In terms of appearance, the domestically produced Ford Ranger has a very imposing overall shape. The car has a brand-new design, with a larger middle grille and a double-layered horizontal stripe design inside, seamlessly integrated with the "C-shaped" headlights. Furthermore, these headlights are equipped with matrix LED light sources. Its design language is quite similar to the Ford Maverick, but in presence, it's closer to the Ford F-150.
From the side and rear, the new vehicle boasts a double-row cabin and a rear cargo bed. Above the cargo bed, there's a robust cargo luggage rack. The tail lights of the new car adopt an "8-shaped" design and slightly protrude outwards, aligning with Ford's current design language. Inside the rear bed, there's a power supply and a movable tailgate, convenient for camping.
For the interior, the Jiangling Ford Ranger's cabin configuration is explicit and detailed. The central console features a lot of leather wrapping and is decorated with orange accents. Besides the traditional glove box, the upper part of the console also offers a storage box and a retractable cup holder. The steering wheel buttons have been localized, and one can find buttons for steering wheel heating and WeChat. The new car is also equipped with a full LCD dashboard that reflects the style of American cars and displays tire pressure monitoring.
The new car adopts a five-seat layout. The rear seats come with a center armrest, rear air vents, and a power outlet. Apart from the slightly thin backrest of the rear seats, it's generally comparable to a passenger car. Moreover, the rear seats can be flipped upwards for storage convenience.
In terms of power, the new car will offer a 2.3T turbocharged gasoline engine and a 2.3T turbocharged diesel engine. For the transmission system, the 2.3T EcoBoost gasoline engine can output a performance of 450 N·m and will be paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
