Tap water contains minerals like calcium and magnesium. Over time, these can form scale deposits inside the radiator and cooling system, reducing heat dissipation efficiency and potentially clogging narrow coolant passages.

Corrosion Risk:
Tap water lacks the anti-corrosion agents found in proper engine coolant or distilled water with additives. This increases the risk of internal rust and corrosion in the radiator, water pump, and engine block.

Freezing and Boiling Issues:
Tap water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C, while proper coolant mixtures (usually a blend of antifreeze and distilled water) have much lower freezing points and higher boiling points. This helps prevent overheating and freezing in extreme temperatures.

Shorter Lifespan of Cooling System Components:
Using tap water can shorten the lifespan of components like the thermostat, radiator hoses, and heater core due to scaling and corrosion.


Conclusion:
Tap water should be avoided in car radiators. Instead, use a proper mix of antifreeze and distilled or deionized water, or a pre-mixed coolant recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. This ensures optimal cooling performance and long-term protection for the engine and cooling system.
