When a car falls into water, the doors become difficult or impossible to open due to the following reasons:
Water Pressure Difference – As the car submerges, water exerts strong pressure on the outside of the doors. Inside the car, there is still air, creating a pressure imbalance. This makes it extremely difficult to push the door open against the force of the water.
Buoyancy Effect – When the car is partially submerged, it floats for a short period. This reduces traction on the door seals, making it even harder to open them.
Electronic Failures – Many modern cars have electronic locks and windows. If the electrical system fails due to water damage, it may prevent the doors or windows from functioning properly.
Panic and Disorientation – In an emergency, people may panic and struggle to react efficiently. Water entering the car can cause disorientation, making it harder to unlock doors or find an escape route.
How to Escape a Sinking Car:
Act Quickly – You have about 30-60 seconds before the car is fully submerged.
Open the Window Immediately – Power windows may still work for a few seconds. If possible, roll them down as soon as the car hits the water.
Use a Window Breaker – If the window won't open, use a glass-breaking tool to shatter it. Side windows are the best exit points.
Do Not Open the Door Right Away – Wait until the car is nearly full of water. When the pressure inside and outside equalizes, the door will be easier to open.
Escape Through the Window – Once the window is open, exit quickly and swim to the surface.
