When smoking in the car, should the air conditioner be set to internal circulation or external circulation?

When smoking in the car, it's advisable to switch on the air conditioner's external circulation mode. This feature allows for the circulation of air between the interior and exterior of the vehicle, gradually expelling smoke outside as the vehicle moves. Conversely, using the internal circulation mode traps smoke inside, where it can be absorbed by occupants. The internal circulation mode recirculates air within the vehicle, making it challenging to eliminate smoke, hence it's essential to opt for external circulation when smoking in the car.

It's not just about smoking in the car; choosing between internal and external circulation is crucial in other situations as well. Internal circulation mode is primarily used during air conditioning cooling or heating to achieve temperature control. It helps block out dust and poorer air quality, ensuring a relatively sealed cabin environment.

On the other hand, external circulation mode allows fresh air into the vehicle, facilitating continuous air circulation between the interior and exterior, thus improving the purification of cabin air.

In specific scenarios, we should choose between internal and external circulation. When driving in dusty areas or industrial zones, it's advisable to use the internal circulation function to isolate the vehicle from polluted external air. Additionally, activating internal circulation mode when driving in congested traffic can help avoid inhaling vehicle emissions, reducing the risk of passenger discomfort.

However, in certain situations, external circulation should be selected. If someone is smoking in the car, using external circulation quickly disperses the smoke, minimizing its impact on the occupants' health. Moreover, during rainy or foggy weather conditions, using external circulation mode promotes air circulation, reducing fogging on the glass and enhancing driving safety.
