What does Tesla Sentry Mode mean?

As the name suggests, Tesla's Sentry Mode is a security system that guards the vehicle like a sentry. The vehicle's body sensors constantly monitor the surrounding situation. Once small movements are detected, the cameras automatically activate, and the central control screen inside the car displays "Recording initiated", thus deterring potential intruders.

If the thief's actions escalate to the extent of breaking windows or damaging the vehicle, the car will sound an alarm. Additionally, it will play music to attract the attention of people nearby, and emergency alerts will be sent to the owner via the mobile app to ensure the vehicle's safety. However, how can you view the playback of Tesla Sentry Mode?

Currently, playback of Tesla Sentry Mode is the same as playback of Tesla's driving recorder and can only be viewed by using a computer or purchasing a smartphone OTG adapter to view the records on a USB flash drive.

It's worth noting that to enable Tesla Sentry Mode, you need to first prepare a high-speed USB 3.0 flash drive (recommended 64GB) and insert it into the front USB port of the vehicle. Then, enable Sentry Mode in the vehicle settings under the "Safety" option. Sentry Mode consumes a significant amount of power; approximately, running Sentry Mode for a day will reduce the vehicle's range by about 30-40km.

Regarding the choice of USB flash drive, it is recommended to purchase one with a capacity of 64GB or 128GB. Currently, Tesla records from four cameras simultaneously, and the video material recorded per minute is approximately 140MB. The Tesla dashcam function can retain material from within the last hour, after which it will be overwritten in a loop. If a 32GB USB flash drive is used, it will begin overwriting after about 20 minutes, while a flash drive larger than 128GB may be somewhat wasteful.
