What Does JDM Mean? Classic JDM Models

JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) refers to vehicles and parts produced and sold specifically for the Japanese domestic market. Over time, the term has also come to represent a Japanese modification style that emphasizes authenticity and original Japanese components. JDM customization doesn't have a strict definition; it broadly includes modifications using Japanese parts and accessories, reflecting Japanese aesthetics and applied to Japanese-made vehicles.

Here are some iconic examples of JDM vehicles:

1. Nissan Skyline GT-R

The Nissan GT-R is one of the most iconic sports cars and the best-known JDM model, earning the nickname "Godzilla." Among its many versions, the Nissan GT-R R32 stands out. Powered by the RB26DETT engine, it achieved legendary status by winning all 29 races it participated in from 1990 until its retirement in the Japanese Touring Car Championship.

2. Honda NSX

The NSX, often called the "King of Honda," was the first supercar to incorporate F1 design principles. Its futuristic styling makes it hard to believe it was launched in 1990, earning it the title "Ferrari of Japan."

3. Toyota Supra

Often referred to by fans as the "King of the Bulls," the Toyota Supra traces its origins to another legendary Toyota sports car, the Celica. Eventually, the Supra became a standalone model. The A80 Supra is perhaps the most recognized by enthusiasts. With its sleek and fluid design, it features the powerful 2JZ inline-six engine. The turbocharged version produces up to 280 kW of power and 450 N·m of torque.

While its stock performance is impressive, the Supra's engine is renowned for its modification potential. With tuning, it can easily reach 700 horsepower, or even exceed 1,000 horsepower, solidifying its reputation as the "King of the Bulls."
