Mechanical Automatic Transmission (AMT) Alias: AMT

1:What is it?

1
The Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) is an improvement over traditional manual gearboxes. It combines the advantages of both automatic (AT) and manual (MT) transmissions. AMT retains the gear-driven transmission of a manual gearbox while incorporating the automatic shifting capabilities of a hydraulic automatic transmission.

2:Features
Compared to a manual transmission (MT), AMT offers the following advantages: easier operation, intelligent shifting, no need for clutch pedal, increased power, and more precise timing of gear changes. It emulates the driving behavior of skilled drivers, avoiding erroneous operations and enhancing safety.

Compared to an automatic transmission (AT), AMT provides the following advantages: increased power, over 7% higher transmission efficiency with no power loss, 20% fuel savings, lower production costs (up to 30% cost advantage), better production inheritability, lower maintenance costs comparable to MT, and lower costs compared to AT. Compared to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), AMT has the advantages of lower cost, ease of production, convenient maintenance, lower overall costs, and better compatibility with various vehicle models.

3:Principle
The working principle of AMT involves modifying the manual gearbox by mainly altering the manual shifting control mechanism. The overall transmission structure remains unchanged, while an electronically controlled automated system is added to achieve automated shifting. Therefore, AMT is essentially controlled by a computer that operates a robotic system to perform the actions of clutch engagement and gear selection. The core technologies of AMT are microcomputer control, electronic technology, and quality, which directly determine the performance and operational quality of AMT.
