How to Solve Sudden Acceleration in Electric Vehicles

Sudden acceleration during startup is a common issue in electric vehicles, but it can be managed through a few adjustments. First, poor handlebar linearity can be one of the causes. When the handlebar has a small rotation angle, the output voltage may rise quickly, with minimal increase during mid-rotation, and a steep increase at the end. To address this, consider replacing the throttle with one that has better linearity, or adding a 2K resistor in series with the positive terminal controlled by a switch to help regulate speed.

Soft and hard start control is another key aspect. Many electric vehicles are equipped with a soft start function, which helps moderate acceleration during startup. By removing the seat cushion to locate the soft start controller, and inserting wires as directed by labels, users can adjust startup behavior. If the original design lacks a soft start function, adjustments may not be possible, and in this case, it's advisable to consult a repair shop to see if a controller with a soft start feature can be installed.

Motor torque and controller settings also impact the abruptness of acceleration. If the motor torque is too high or the controller's initial output is set too aggressively, startup can become too forceful. To prevent this, try setting the vehicle to a low-speed mode to limit speed, ensuring smoother starts. If this adjustment isn't available, consider switching the controller or adding resistance to the handlebar.

In summary, by optimizing handlebar linearity, adjusting soft and hard start settings, and paying attention to motor torque and controller settings, sudden acceleration in electric vehicles can be effectively mitigated, resulting in a smoother and more comfortable driving experience.
