How to Repair a Small Chip on a Car Windshield Caused by a Stone

The method to repair a car windshield that's been chipped by a stone depends on the specific damage. While some small chips can be repaired, others cannot. For some tiny dents or cracks, a repair fluid can be used. Here are the specific steps:

8

1:Purchase a windshield repair kit from an auto parts store or online, which typically includes repair fluid, a pedestal, syringe, and other relevant accessories.

2:Clean the damaged area with alcohol and glass cleaner, removing any glass shards or debris. After cleaning, use a hairdryer to dry and clear the area. If the damaged area has cracks, try to make the glass as level as possible.

3:Attach the pedestal over the chip on the glass and then fill the pedestal with the repair fluid until it's full.

4:After filling it with repair fluid, insert the syringe into the pedestal. Move the plunger up and down, maintaining a vacuum state between the pedestal and the plunger for about 10 minutes.

5:After 10 minutes, remove the syringe and scrape off any excess resin from the glass using a razor blade. Let the repaired area sit under direct sunlight for 20-30 minutes.

When is a Repair Not Advisable?

1:When the damaged area caused by a stone is larger than a one-yuan coin.

2:If the damage is located in the driver's main line of sight.

3:When the windshield has been completely punctured.

Apart from the above scenarios, it's also not recommended to repair long cracks. As the car moves, the windshield faces significant wind resistance and the car vibrates. Over time, the damaged area might expand. If the wind resistance becomes too great for the chipped area, the windshield might even be blown off.
