How Long to Charge a Drained Car Battery, and How Much Can It Charge in 10 Minutes of Idling?

When a car's battery is drained, using the car's alternator to fully charge it requires the car's engine to maintain a speed of over 2,000 RPM, which is equivalent to driving continuously for at least 4 hours. Idling for only 10 minutes, on the other hand, can roughly charge the battery up to about 6% of its capacity. This means if the car is parked for a week and idles for 10 minutes daily, it should ensure an adequate battery level.

Car batteries are relatively fragile components. As the number of charge-discharge cycles increases, the performance of the battery diminishes. Under normal circumstances and with proper usage habits, a battery can last 3-4 years, or even longer. If the car is not used for extended periods, it is recommended to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. This prevents the battery from discharging, as it can't activate its self-protection function, thus preventing battery drain.
