How is a roof rack mounted to a car?

A roof rack is typically mounted to a car in one of the following ways, depending on the vehicle's design:

Factory-installed mounting points: Many modern cars come with pre-installed mounting points (also called fixed points) under removable covers on the roof. The roof rack feet are bolted directly into these points for a secure fit.

Flush or raised roof rails: Some vehicles have side rails that run from front to back. Roof racks can clamp onto raised rails or attach to flush rails using specialized kits.

Door frame clamps (bare roof): If a car has a bare roof with no rails or mounting points, roof racks use a clamp system that attaches to the top of the door frames. Rubber pads and clips hold the rack in place without damaging the vehicle.

Tracks or channels: Some vehicles or aftermarket systems include tracks or channels that allow crossbars to slide and be adjusted for different cargo needs.

Proper installation is important for safety and to avoid damage to the vehicle. It's recommended to follow the manufacturer's instructions and use a system that is compatible with your specific car model.
