Are Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive and On-Demand Four-Wheel Drive the Same?

In the field of automotive technology, intelligent four-wheel drive and on-demand four-wheel drive both relate to vehicle drive systems, but there are significant differences between them. While both aim to enhance vehicle performance in complex conditions, they operate on fundamentally different principles and applications.

First, intelligent four-wheel drive systems focus more on vehicle autonomy and intelligence. Compared to simple on-demand systems, intelligent four-wheel drive uses advanced sensors and onboard computers to more accurately perceive changes in the surrounding environment, allowing for intelligent switching between two-wheel and four-wheel drive modes based on real-time conditions. This design minimizes driver intervention, enabling the vehicle to autonomously select the optimal driving mode.

Second, there are differences in performance. Intelligent four-wheel drive, positioned between full-time and on-demand systems, does not match the performance levels of full-time four-wheel drive. On-demand systems tend to outperform, providing stronger power support for drivers, especially in challenging conditions.
