Answering a Lithuanian customer's questions about issues with the Toyota Prius.

If you plan to leave your Toyota Prius unused for a few weeks, here are some tips to prevent the 12V battery from discharging:
1. Start the car weekly:
Yes, starting the car and leaving it in the "READY" mode for about 30 minutes once a week can help maintain the charge of the 12V battery. In the "READY" mode, the hybrid system's high-voltage battery powers the system and charges the 12V battery.
2. Turn off unnecessary devices:
Ensure all electrical components (e.g., lights, radio, interior lights) are turned off before leaving the car. Even small power drains can discharge the 12V battery over time.
3. Use a trickle charger:
If possible, connect the 12V battery to a trickle charger or battery maintainer. These devices provide a steady charge to keep the battery at an optimal level and prevent it from discharging completely.
4. Disconnect the 12V battery:
If the car will remain unused for an extended period and you can't start it weekly, consider disconnecting the negative terminal of the 12V battery. This prevents power loss from the vehicle's electronics. However, note that disconnecting the battery might reset some systems, such as clocks and radio presets.
5. Check the battery's condition:
If your 12V battery is old or weak, consider testing it or replacing it with a new one. Older batteries discharge more quickly and may not hold a charge well.
Important: If you choose to start the car weekly, make sure it is in "READY" mode, not just in accessory mode ("ACC"). Only in "READY" mode will the hybrid system charge the 12V battery.
