Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS)

1:What is it used for?
The adaptive front-lighting system is designed to illuminate the inner side of a curve while turning, providing enhanced visibility of blind spots, pedestrians, and obstacles in the path.

1

2:Advantages:

Increases the early detection of your presence by other road users, allowing them to take evasive action, thus improving nighttime driving safety.
Some AFS systems also include automatic height adjustment, ensuring proper illumination of high and low areas while driving on frequent inclines and declines, thus maintaining optimal visibility.
3:Misconceptions:
Fog light compensation and cornering auxiliary lights are not part of the adaptive front-lighting system. The headlights themselves do not move but instead, independent cornering lights illuminate the inner side of the curve.
The range of movement for the headlights is limited (typically around 8°-15°), which in turn limits the coverage of the illuminated blind spots.
AFS headlight assemblies can be expensive, and their replacement and repair costs are generally high.
4:How does it work?
The adaptive front-lighting system, also known as AFS, automatically adjusts the orientation of the headlights based on the vehicle's speed and steering angle. By anticipating the "yet to be reached" areas, the system provides all-round safety lighting, ensuring optimal visibility for the driver at all times.
